Forrest Landry is a philosopher, writer, researcher, scientist, engineer, craftsman, and teacher focused on metaphysics, the manner in which software applications, tools, and techniques influence the design and management of very large scale complex systems, and the thriving of all forms of life on this planet. Forrest is also the founder and CEO of Magic Flight, a third-generation master woodworker who found that he had a unique set of skills in large scale software systems design, governance architecture, and community process.

John Vervaeke, Ph.D., is an award-winning professor of psychology, cognitive science, and Buddhist psychology at the University of Toronto.This foundational series unravels the meaning crisis: the loss of spiritual vitality, and the sense of disconnection we experience with other people, ourselves, and the world at large. This series provides a historical genealogy – beginning 40,000 years ago – that explores the rise and fall of meaning in the West, and the philosophy, religion and science that nurtured.

This is a conversation between Ian McGilchrist, John Vervaeke and Daniel Schmachtenberger, recorded at Merton College, Oxford, in September 2023. With no planned objective or agenda, the discussion sought to outline the cognitive and spiritual components of the metacrisis. The metacrisis is the total ecosystem of all global crises and the common underlying dynamics that generate catastrophic and existential risks. This is neither a comprehensive theory of the topic, nor an approach to addressing it. The conversation was simply an opportunity to explore in real time how the speakers, with their different worldviews and pre-existing frameworks, would approach this deep and challenging domain.

Voicecraft is dedicated to the cultivation of wiser culture and the craft of voice. It works to vitalise contexts so that authentic communication is welcome and able to address the heart of what matters. It was conceived in response to the lack of authentic contexts where curiousity, care, and the spirit that seeks wisdom, were engaging the real of modern life. Core to the philosophy which animates participation in The Voicecraft Project is the recognition that we are all involved in the communicational field which moves and shapes us, and that the craft by which we meet and interact influences the meaning which colours the richness, joy, and depth of our knowing and relating with the world.
